Fujitsu Developed Energy Efficient 500GB, 5400rpm 2.5" HDD

Fujitsu has developed two new 500 GB 2.5" HDD models that feature a rotational speed of 5,400 RPM and consume only 1.4W of power during recording. The MJA2 BH series will be available from the end of December 2008, and the MJA2 CH series will be available in the first quarter of the 2009 calendar year.

Sharkoon Unveiled Cheaper Alternative To Notebook SSD

The Sharkoon Flexi-Drive S2S is an SSD adaptor with the size and connections of a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive. The necessary flash memory is provided by the up to six SDHC cards that can be installed in the enclosure. At this time the maximum available SDHC capacity is 32GB, allowing for a maximum of 192GB to be installed in the Flexi-Drive S2S. End customers will find the Sharkoon Flexi-Drive S2S available immediately from authorized retailers for the suggested retail price of 79 euros.

Toshiba today announced a new range of slim and stylish USB2.0 Toshiba Portable External Hard Drive with capacities of up to an ultra-high capacity of 400GB. It comes in four capacities (160GB, 250GB, 320GB and 400GB) to choose from and is denoted by the hard drive colors: Aurora Green, Blaze Red, Night-cat Gray and Electric Blue. It weighs just 171g.

Intel Shipped Out High Performance SSD Drives

Intel has begun shipping its X-25E Extreme SATA Solid-State Drive, aimed at server, workstation and storage systems. It features 50nm single-level cell (SLC) NAND flash memory technology. Key technical performance specifications of the 32 GB Intel X-25E SATA SSD include 35,000 IOPS (4KB Random Read), 3,300 IOPS (4KB Random Write) and 75 microsecond read latency. The 32GB capacity drive is in production and priced at $695 for quantities up to 1,000. The 64GB version is expected to sample in the fourth quarter with production estimated for the first quarter of 2009.
