Canon Launched New DC300 Series DVD Camcorders

10 April 2008 - The DC330 and DC320 camcorders feature a 45x advanced zoom whilst the DC310 features a 41x advanced zoom. All three camcorder models offer a 37x optical zoom with electronic image stabilization. The new camcorders all offer true wide high resolution 16:9 recording which is ideal for playback on widescreen television. The Canon DC330/DC320/DC310 camcorders are now available at all Canon authorized dealers at the recommended retail price of S$899 / S$799/ S$699 respectively.

Canon DV Fest - Singapore’s Largest Film-making Programme

6 November 2006 - Canon announced the 20 short listed films for the annual Canon DV Fest - Singapore’s largest film-making outreach programme. Starting from tonight, audiences from all over the world will be able to view all short listed entries and vote for their favourite short film. The judges this year are Serene Choo, VP, Branding & Promotions, MediaCorp TV; Irene Ang, CEO, Fly Entertainment; Holman Chin, General Manager, Vision Media, Andrew Koh, Director and General Manager, Consumer Imaging and Information, Canon Singapore; and Simon Siah, Event Producer, Canon DV Fest 2006. This closed-door awards event will be held on 24 November 2006 at DXO Club, Colours by the Bay, Esplanade Mall. Winners will be awarded prizes amounting up to $50,000 worth of cash and prizes. Results of the winners will be posted on the DV Fest website one day after the event.

Toshiba HD DVD HD-XA1 player ships

2 April 2006 - The HD-XA1 is the top-end model of the two Toshiba unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last January. The unit can upscale DVDs to 720p or 1080i - the maximum HD resolution the player supports. It has HDMI output - component and S-video too - and support for Linear PCM 5.1 audio with Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD.

CEDIA Convention Day One Coverage

16 September 2006 - CEDIA officially opened today at the Denver Convention Center. Toshiba added two new 1080p models in the 42-inch and 47-inch screen sizes, and created a whole new sub-category called Cinema Series Pro. These models are an off-shoot of their Cinema Series line, which feature striking piano black cabinetry. Toshiba also announced that they had sold approximately 30,000 HD DVD players so far this year, and were outselling Samsung's Blu-ray disc player by 3-to-1. Not resting on its HD DVD laurels, it will be launching two additional models in the Fall timeframe. While one model will still output 1080i, the HD-XA2 will feature HDMI 1.3 and output 1080p. It will pass multi-channel DTS-HD, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD; and retail for USD$999. This model will be available in December. Runco introduced 14 new models including LCD, plasma and front projection displays. Runco will be offering a new 50-inch 1080p plasma display for USD$9,999. All of their front projectors will be capable of displaying images in a true widescreen 2.35:1 aspect ratio (without black bars) vs. 16:9 of standard widescreen projectors. Mitsubishi held a short press conference noting that sales of MicroDisplay HDTVs were up 46% so far this year over last, and growing.

Samsung To Launch Origami PC in May

17 April 2006 - Samsung Electronics announced on Thursday that it is planning to put its ultra mobile PC(UMPC) Q1 model, on worldwide sale in May. Samsung's Q1 is based on the Origami platform developed by Microsoft and Intel. It has a 7-inch LCD (liquid crystal display) monitor with 22.7/13.9/2.6 cm dimensions and weighs 779 grams. The Q1 is based on an Intel Celeron M processor running at 900MHz. It has 512MB of memory and a 40GB, hard-disk drive. There is a wired and wireless LAN adapter, Bluetooth, and a Compact Flash card slot. Samsung's tablet PC will be available from May 1st and will cost USD$1,264. It will also go on sale in May in the U.S., Europe, CIS, and China where prices are yet to be announced.

Olympus to offer E-330 in 6 different flavors to sweeten the deal

28 March 2006 - CameraTown reports that Olympus will be offering their "Live View" CCD display E-330 Digital SLRs in 6 different packages, from "Pro", to "Traveling Pro", "Nature Pro" and even "Underwater Pro" kits. Being a DSLR, Olympus is doing a rather bold move, since most of the other DSLRs are just sold body alone, or at most with a kit lens. With their different packages, it seems that Olympus is targeting straight at Point & Shoot upgraders, who's looking at specific packages to improve in their shooting arsenal.
