AxeRAM 1066+ - D9GMH Wonder

We've did many reviews of DDR-II modules for the past two years, and we've also seen memory prices went on a rollercoaster ride, from a good USD$600 for a pair of premium ram to a good USD$150 for a pair! Today, we will be taking a look at the Transcend AxeRAM 1066+ 2GB kit. Based on Micron's D9GMH ICs, we can be sure that this pair of enthusiast RAMs can clock really well, and at the same time, they look pretty nice donning that black and silver heatspreader...

D9GMH ICs from the same batch on both sticks!

CL3 testing

Testing Platform:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6550
  • Asus P5KC
  • eVGA 8800GTS
  • Seagate 7200.7 80GB Hard Drive
  • Windows XP Pro SP2

At 2.3V, we managed to achieve 400Mhz  stable at CL3-3-3-5. Click on the screenie above for Sandra results, 3DM01 Lobby Run and SuperPi 4M tests.

At 2.45V, we managed to further ramp up the clock speeds to 415Mhz at CL3-3-3-5 stable. Click on the screenie above for Sandra results, 3DM01 Lobby Run and SuperPi 4M tests.

By loosening the timings to 3-3-3-6, I was able to achieve 420Mhz stable at 2.4V. Click on the screenie above for Sandra results, 3DM01 Lobby Run and SuperPi 4M tests.

Finally, at 2.5V, I was able to achieve 430Mhz stable at timings of 3-3-3-6. Click on the screenie above for Sandra results, 3DM01 Lobby Run and SuperPi 4M tests.

CL4 testing

At 2.35V, we managed to achieve 521Mhz at 4-4-4-12 Stable. Click on the screenie for 32m SuperPi and wPrime.

At 2.55v, we managed a good 566Mhz at 4-4-4-12 stable! Click on the screenie for SuperPi 4M, 3DM01 Lobby and Sandra scores.

We managed to hit 570Mhz stable by relaxing the timings to 4-5-4-12, but sadly it wasn't too stable on 3DM01's Lobby test.. Click on the screenie for SuperPi 4M and Sandra scores.

CL5 testing

At 2.25V, We managed to hit 620Mhz at 5-5-5-15 stable. Click on the screenie for SuperPi 32M, 3DM01 lobby and Sandra benchmarks.

at 2.3V, we managed to do 630Mhz, stable in SuperPi 4M but not 3DM01 Lobby.

Ramping up the voltage to 2.45V and relaxing the timings to 5-6-6-18 proves fruitful, as we were able to achieve 640Mhz stable in SuperPi 4M & Lobby.

We hit wall at 645Mhz on the Asus P5KC at 2.55V, and this is only SuperPi 1M stable.

Conclusion

This pair of Transcend AxeRAM based on the D9GMH clearly illustrates that the D9s have been maturing steadily since. Taking a look at the last OCZ Reaper HPC PC-9200 2GB Kit which we took a look in April, This pair of AxeRAM has a good 15MHz lead over the the Reapers, and without heatpipe cooling too! For less than USD$140 per kit, the axeRAM kit is one of the cheapest enthusiast DDR-II 1066 kit available in the market now. So what exactly are you guys waiting for?

**Update**

This pair of RAM is currently undergoing further testing with the Asus Maximus Formula SE, you can read about the updates here!
