The Vgpu Modification

A while back, we reviewed the Gigabyte 6600 DDR2 and found it to be a pretty interesting overclocker. We decided to that the overclocking we did was a little too mild, so we are going to do some soldering work and blast things up the ORB.

Here's the GPU Core Voltage (Vgpu) modification:

A 50kOhm trimpot is required. Turn the resistance to the maximum and cut off the excess pin. Solder one end to the highlighted end of R607, and the other end to ground (you can use the highlighted ground on the electrolytic capacitor). Vgpu can be checked off the inductor pin highlighted.

With that, we managed to run a 3DMark06 run at 620MHz core, artifact-free. Without any voltage modification, only 550MHz core was within reach.

Take note that good GPU cooling is essential for ensuring the GPU longevity, stability and clockability.


The Vmem Modification

Next we tried the Memory Voltage Modification.

It was unfortunate that our 2.5 ns Infineons didn't like the extra voltage.

Take note that the VTT tracks along, so no further modification is needed.

Likewise, set the trimpot at 50kOhm and cut off the extra pin before soldering it on. Reduce resistance to increase voltage.

Memory Voltage can be read off the inductor pin highlighted.
