Sharkoon Unveiled Cheaper Alternative To Notebook SSD

The Sharkoon Flexi-Drive S2S is an SSD adaptor with the size and connections of a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive. The necessary flash memory is provided by the up to six SDHC cards that can be installed in the enclosure. At this time the maximum available SDHC capacity is 32GB, allowing for a maximum of 192GB to be installed in the Flexi-Drive S2S. End customers will find the Sharkoon Flexi-Drive S2S available immediately from authorized retailers for the suggested retail price of 79 euros.

Oh... and one more thing... SLC memory is faster and can sustain more write cycles, but is much more expensive. I don't think there are very many SLC-based SDHC cards out.

Seriously people, where did you learn about technology? Your uncle lester? And what the hell is V2 flash? SDHC cards have different read/write speeds... the fastest currently work at over 30 megabytes a second... so it is entirely possible that three would work @ 100+ MBPS in a RAID 0 array. If you aren't up on the math, 30+30+30= 90. Also, be aware that these are not BURST SPEEDS. Flash memory does not have BURST SPEEDS, because it has no cache memory... IT IS MEMORY. Yes, RAID works for flash. It always has, it always will... and RAID 0 is DESIGNED to increase speed by spreading read/write cycles over 2 or more physical disks... and if you didn't notice, they pointed out that this was a RAID 0 array IN THE REVIEW! did you actually read the review? you know, that little collection of words below the pretty pictures? Now why don't you go learn how to write a complete, coherent sentence IN ENGLISH.

it existed with cf cards and probably a few others. this time, it is much better implemented. they use MULTIPLE cards with RAID so the performance is much faster then single cards.

i dont beleive those speeds are accurate, not even close.

They did a test with the Acard ANS-9012 and show it was possible... The more SDHC they put in the faster the overall performance is... The effect of RAID 0 6 SDHC cards

I am calling shinanigans! no way not unless they are raid'd together but SD drives do not have a burst mode like a standard drive so raid wouldnt work for speed increases.

i dont beleive those speeds are accurate, not even close.

come on guys, geez! think about this before you post.

these are NOT let me repeat NOT OS drives, never were meant to be and never will be, reading and writing from an SD card is so freakin slow its crazy.

even the SSD drives out there now with an exception of 2 or 3 are NOT meant to be the main OS drive, they never were, although the manufacturer wouldn't tell you that.

these are storage drives only, not for windows.

also there is a dual CF card adapter at ewiz, and has been for a long time. one of the models even supports RAID 0.

i almost bought one because they are cheaper, but you are still limited by the limited read/write speeds. even a 233 or 266x CF card is slower than #1 a regular hard drive and #2 an SSD drive.

anything flash based (SD/CF/SSD) that is not the New Rev 2 SSD drives is going to be sloowwwww and worthless.

i wonder if it will suffer the same fate traditional SSDs did with Windows? Slow random writes and such.
