Just before we say goodbye to Computex Taipei, we managed to lay our hands on a Acer Aspire One demo unit. Aspire One is internally known as ZG5 and is powered by Atom N270 at 1.6GHz. It has 512MB DDR2 SDRAM onboard and has another expansion slot for a stick of 512/1/2GB. It comes with 8.9-inch display with up to 1024x600 resolution, a 1.3M pixel camera, a dedicated SDHC expansion slot, an internal card reader, 8GB SSD onboard, 80GB HDD (optional), 3 x USB 2.0 ports, 802.11b/g wireless, 10/100 Ethernet, VGA out. The demo unit comes with a 3-cell 2200mAh battery but Acer offers 6-cell 4400mAh battery as well. Interestingly, it has WiMAX module onboard (optional) and a slot for 3G SIM card. Acer is slated to launch it in July for US$399 and we feel that it is a worthy competitor to ASUS Eee PC series in terms of specs, look and feel. We learned that Acer is planning a 10" model as well.
